In the series of events of the Vietnam Engineering Consultant Association held in Nha Trang City, the conference “Application of AI in construction and sustainable development” on the afternoon of May 11, 2024 along with the Membership Conference and Awarding Ceremony “VECAS AWARD 2023” at Novotel Hotel. This is an annual series of events of the Vietnam Engineering Consultant Association.

The conference brought a lot of knowledge and information that is of interest to management agencies, organizations and individuals in the fields of construction, science and technology. The conference was honored to have the presence of distinguished guests and state management agencies on construction: Architect Tran Ngoc Chinh, Former Deputy Minister of Construction, Chairman of the Vietnam Urban Planning and Development Association; Mr. Nguyen Manh Ha, Director of the Authority for Contrucstion Quality Inspection  ; Mr. Bui Van Duong, Deputy Director of Construction Activities Management Agency; Mr. Le Minh Long, Deputy Director of the Science – Technology and Environment Department.

  

With the presentation “AI – The Future of Construction Design Consulting”, General Director of Construction Technology and Consultancy JSC (CIC) Nguyen Hoang Ha said that AI is gradually creeping into every corner of life and the construction industry. Construction is no exception. We, consulting practitioners, are witnessing the explosion of AI, bringing many new opportunities to the design consulting field as well as challenges that need to be addressed. To demonstrate the strong development of AI, the General Director of CIC introduced a number of solutions that technology manufacturers around the world have created AI products to support design work.

Presentation by Autodesk representative in Vietnam, Mr. Le Hieu Hong Phuc, introduced to the conference the latest Autodesk survey showing that 66% of leaders think AI will become essential for businesses. over the next 2 – 3 years and according to insights from Accenture and Frontier Economics, the construction industry could witness significant profit growth of an estimated 71% through AI integration over the next 10 years.With the technology simulation “Automation of design and project management with Autodesk AI”, Mr. Phuc shared with the conference Autodesk’s useful, easy-to-implement and available AI applications for planning, design, quantity measurement, and construction management.

With the theme “Net Zero – Requirements and solutions in construction design”, Master Tran Phuong, Head of Green building and Energy saving department – representative of the Vietnam Institute for Building Science and Technology – IBST brought to the conference discuss the current overall picture of specific solutions that consultants, developers and managers need to pay attention to to meet the requirement of reducing net emissions to “zero” by 2050 as committed by the government at the 26th Conference of Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP26). These are solutions that have been researched and applied in a number of specific projects researched by the team. conducted by IBST.

Different from the presentations of Vietnamese colleagues on technology, Dr. Eng. Takuro Mori – Hiroshima University  and Dr. Yoshihiko Yamaoka – Life Design Kabaya  brought to the conference quite eye-catching and friendly images of the natural landscape by houses with modern architecture. wooden structure, created by architects and engineers in Japan. Wooden house structure is no longer strange to Vietnam, but wood production and treatment techniques to ensure resistance to environmental harshness, connection techniques, and construction methods are valuable experiences for Vietnamese builders to learn. Japanese experts hope that, in the near future, houses with wooden structures following Japanese techniques will appear in high mountains and romantic coastal areas like Nha Trang City.
